Ride for A Reason
The Bike Trek to Shakertown is Kentucky's pre-eminent cycling event -- a 2 or 3-day bicycle tour to benefit the American Lung Association. The trek is a fully supported luxury ride featuring beautiful countryside, famous Kentucky landmarks, gear trucks to carry luggage, experienced tour leaders, on-the-road bike repair service, evening entertainment and a Sunday overnight at historic Shakertown for 3-day riders. The 2009 event is scheduled for September 19-21.
The round-trip route, which begins and ends near Old Ft. Harrod in historic Harrodsburg, features various optio ns to accommodate different ability levels. Beginners can choose the basic route of 30-35 miles each day, while those wanting a greater challenge will enjoy a 69-mile, moderately hilly ride on Saturday and a similar option on Sunday. Monday’s routes will both be shorter.
Each rider pays a $55 registration fee and agrees to raise a minimum of $300 ($200 for the 2-day ride) to support the fight against lung disease. The 2008 event raised over $162,000.
The Bike Trek to Shakertown is an exciting outdoor adventure, and The American Lung Association invites everyone who enjoys riding a bicycle to join the fun – and support the cause!
2009 Kentucky Golf Book
The American Lung Association’s Kentucky Golf Tour Book is a discount golfing program, which offers the bookholder one or more 18-hole rounds of golf at each of the courses listed in the booklet. Often referred to by golfers as the “Lung Book,” it has been Kentucky’s premier golfing package since 1984.
The 2009 Kentucky Golf Tour Book provides reduced rates at more courses than at any time in the program’s 26-year history -- over 2000 discounted rounds at more than 380 courses. The package includes courses in Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin. The book also offers valuable discounts at driving ranges and indoor golf facilities.
All proceeds from the Kentucky Golf Tour Book benefit the critical fight against lung disease
It's a bird, it's a plane, it's Lois Lung and the Air Avenger!
In conjunction with Louisville’s upcoming Asthma Walk – set for June 6th at Waterfront Park -- we’ve created two lung fighting superhero cut-outs – Lois Lung and the Air Avenger — who are available (as their schedules permit) for local community events and workplace walk team recruitment events.
These cut-out heroes are a fun way for people talking about good lung health and asthma, which currently affects 22 million Americans and is the leading cause of missed school days.
If you would like to schedule these lung health superheroes, and our staff to come to your event or workplace to talk about asthma and the Asthma Walk, please call 502-363-2652 or e-mail Kim McCubbin, at kimberlym@kylung.org.
